The Ductless Mini-Split As An Ideal Replacement For Electric Baseboard Heating

ductless mini-split heat pump system can be an ideal replacement for electric baseboard heating or to condition the air in an add-on room or converted garage. It’s made up of one or more indoor air-handling units and an outside condensing unit connected by a conduit. As the name suggests, they deliver conditioned air directly to a room or area without the use of ductwork.

Ductless mini-splits work like other air-source heat pumps, using the heat-exchange properties of refrigerant to transfer heat energy from outside to inside your home during our short heating season, and remove heat from your house during the long Arizona cooling season. While these system have been popular overseas for many years, Americans are increasingly appreciating the value in ductless mini-split system for a number of reasons:

    • They combine cooling and heating into one system.
    • They are designed to cool or heat a single room or zone. Up to four indoor air handling units may be connected to one outside condensing unit.
    • You may turn them off in seldom used rooms to conserve energy.
    • They may be installed in rooms where installing ductwork is not an option such as an add-on or garage apartment.
    • They don’t use ductwork so they don’t lose the 20 percent or so of energy from air leakage that forced-air systems do.
    • The air handlers can be hung on a wall or mounted on the ceiling, or installed as floor-standing units.
    • They are quiet while running and condition the room comfortably.
    • Wall-mounted or remote controls are used to change or set the temperature.
    • They are efficient and come with high ratings for the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF).
    • They have a lifespan of 20 years or more.
    • They can be easily sized to meet your home’s cooling and heating needs.
    • They are great for homes with open floor plans.
